Democrats will win the 2020 presidential election if President Donald Trump continues to brand the socialist congresswoman who call themselves “The Squad” as the face of the Democrat Party, liberal documentary filmmaker Michael Moore predicts.
Trump drew the ire of the Democrat Party after he slammed the squad – Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) – for regularly espousing anti-Semitic rhetoric and complaining about the United States, urging the Democratic lawmakers to “go back” where they came from if they’re discontent with America.
The president warned Friday Omar and Tlaib “are fast becoming the face of the Democrat Party” following the Israeli government announcing the Muslim congresswomen are barred from visiting Israel for comparing the Jewish state to Nazi, Germany and co-sponsoring a resolution defending the boycott of Israel.
Branding the squad as the embodiment of the Democrat Party is a clear path to the White House in 2020, Moore argued on MSNBC’s “The 11th Hour.”
“Let’s hope that Alexandria
and Rashida and Ilhan and Congresswoman Pressley are the face because that’s
how we’re going to win,” he said. “We are going to win with people who believe
that climate change is real. We are going to win by getting behind people who
are going to raise the minimum wage. Who are going to fight for all these
things that the American public want – that’s the squad. They are the force out
According to a poll published by Axios, only 22 percent of swing voters have a favorable view of Cortez, while only 9 percent of swing voters have a favorable view of Omar.
An Economist/YouGov Poll conducted in July after Trump attacked the four congresswomen also shows the squad have weak favorability ratings among a national audience.
“Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) all
had net negative favorability ratings, of -7 points (24 percent
unfavorable to 31 recent favorable), -8 (41 percent unfavorable to 33 percent
favorable) and -9 (24 percent unfavorable to 25 percent favorable),
respectively,” the Hill reported.
Nonetheless, Moore claimed Trump
is afraid of the far-left, anti-Semitic lawmakers.
“I am so glad he’s that frightened
of them,” he gloated. “Both he and Netanyahu are scared of them.”
MSNBC host Brian Williams argued Trump is dissuading voters from supporting the squad by exposing them as socialist, but Moore claimed Americans support socialism.
“First of all, Michigan has a long history, as does Wisconsin and Minnesota, the upper Midwest, of what you would call socialism or Democratic socialism or farm labor Democratic Party. We’ve never trusted the banks or the large corporations. General Motors was founded in Flint, Michigan, in 1908. A year of General Motors trying to turn this into a company town, people were so upset at it, in the next election. Flint elected a socialist mayor to remove the pro-G.M. mayor when the corporation first began. So that’s who we are,” he said. “And the 13th district that Rashida Tlaib represents also has a strong history of — sadly right now it’s the third poorest congressional district in the country.”
