In a Rolling Stone interview, Taylor Swift said she has a newfound obsession with politics.

“Really, I keep trying to learn as much as I can about politics, and it’s become something I’m now obsessed with, whereas before, I was living in this sort of political ambivalence because the person I voted for had always won,” Swift said.

Swift is referring to the two elections she has voted in, the 2008 and 2012 elections, which resulted in the election and reelection of Barack Obama. Swift continued, contrasting Obama and Trump, and expressed that Trump’s 2016 win was baffling.

We were in such an amazing time when Obama was president because foreign nations respected us. We were so excited to have this dignified person in the White House. I think a lot of people are like me, where they just didn’t really know that this could happen. But I’m just focused on the 2020 election.

Swift has yet to endorse a candidate for the 2020 election. In the Rolling Stone interview, Swift said her celebrity involvement with Hillary Clinton’s campaign ended up being used against the 2016 Democratic nominee. Swift’s only message thus far is that Democrats need to be united.

“We need to not have the right kind of Democrat and the wrong kind of Democrat. We need to just be like, ‘You’re a Democrat? Sick. Get in the car. We’re going to the mall,’” Swift said.

After the release of Swift’s interview, the Heritage Foundation’s president, Kay Coles James invited Swift to visit the conservative D.C. think tank.

“Taylor Swift, you said you were obsessed with learning about politics, so I welcome you to visit us at Heritage for a substantive policy discussion with our experts and me. Every day, we develop solutions to bring more freedom, opportunity, and prosperity to all Americans,” James tweeted.

Swift has yet to respond, and it is unlikely she will. While Swift says she is interested in learning more about politics, she has proven to be interested in learning about only liberal ideas. “With Republicans, if you’re wearing the red hat, you’re one of them,” Swift said.
